Manufacturing process of graphite electrode

Graphite electrode, which is mainly made of petroleum coke, needle coke as raw materials and coal asphalt as a binder, through calcination, batching, mixing and kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining, is a conductor that releases electric energy in the form of arc to heat and melt the charge in an electric arc furnace.

According to its quality index, it can be divided into ordinary power graphite electrode, high power graphite electrode, and ultra-high power graphite electrode.

The main raw material of the graphite electrode is petroleum coke. A small amount of asphalt coke can be added to the graphite electrode with ordinary power. The sulfur content of petroleum coke and asphalt coke cannot exceed 0.5%. Needle coke is also needed to produce high power or ultra-high power graphite electrodes.

The main raw material for aluminum anode production is petroleum coke, and the sulfur content should not be more than 1.5% ~ 2%. Petroleum coke and asphalt coke should meet the relevant quality standards of the state.

The main USES of graphite electrodes include:

(1) for arc steel furnace

Electric furnace steelmaking is a major user of the graphite electrode. The output of China's electric furnace steel accounts for about 18% of the output of crude steel, and the graphite electrode used for steelmaking accounts for 70% ~ 80% of the total consumption of the graphite electrode. Electric furnace steelmaking is made by using a graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace and using the hot heat source generated by an electric arc between the electric extreme part and the charge.

(2) used in a thermal electric furnace

-arc furnace is mainly used in the production of industrial yellow phosphorus and silicon, etc., its characteristic is the lower part of the conductive electrode buried in furnace charge, arc formed within the material layer, and use the furnace charge itself from the resistance of the heat energy to heating furnace charge, one of the high current density required -arc furnace with a graphite electrode, such as silicon 1 t per production to consumption of graphite electrode is about 100 kg, per 1 t yellow phosphorus production to consumption of graphite electrode, about 40 kg.

(3) used in a resistance furnace

The graphitization furnace for the production of graphite products, the melting furnace of glass, and the electric furnace for the production of silicon carbide belong to the resistance furnace. The materials in the furnace are both the thermal resistance and the object to be heated. Generally, the graphite electrode used for conducting electricity is embedded in the furnace wall at the end of the resistance furnace, and the graphite electrode used here is discontinuous consumption.

(4) used to prepare shaped graphite products

The blank of the graphite electrode is also used for processing various different graphite products such as crucible, mold, dish, and heating element. For example, in the quartz-glass industry, 10t of graphite electrode blank is needed for every 1t of electric fuse pipe. For each 1t of quartz brick, 100kg of graphite electrode blank is consumed.
